Clifford Ray Taylor, lifelong resident Amelia, Nebraska passed away peacefully on October 18, 2026, with his family by his side at Avera St. Anthony’s Hospital in O’Neill, Nebraska the age of 77.
Clifford Ray Taylor, born February 2, 1949, in Burwell, Nebraska, was the son of James C. and Esther I. (Freeman) Taylor. His early years were marked by the Blizzard of 1949, which delayed his and his mother's return to their ranch following his birth. Raised on the family ranch in southwest Holt County, Clifford attended country school and Burwell High School.
During a hospital stay at St. Anthony’s Hospital following a car accident, Clifford met his future wife, Veronica “Ronnie” Pribil, who was his nurse. Their marriage took place at St. Patrick’s Church in O’Neill, Nebraska, on November 24, 1967, the same date as Ronnie’s parents' 30th wedding anniversary. Together, they welcomed three children: James Raymond, Jerome Clair, and Paula Lynn. St. Anthony’s Hospital held special significance in Clifford's life, being the place where he met his wife, the birthplace of their three children and where Clifford passed away.
Cliff dedicated his life to the family ranch in Holt County, working alongside his brother Bob and son Ray, except during a brief period residing in O’Neill after the couple was married when he worked as an over-the-road truck driver. Even in retirement, he found joy in trucking with his son and grandsons.
Cliff was involved in the Road Board of Josie Precent and Cedar Creek Bible Church. An avid outdoorsman, Clifford enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting coyotes, and water sports. He also had a passion for flying his Pero Plane, collecting antique cars, and cherishing moments with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Veronica “Ronnie” of Amelia; two sons, James Raymond (Pam) Taylor of Amelia, Jerome Clair Taylor of Lincoln; a daughter, Paula Lynn Swank of Lingel, Wyoming; brother and sister-in-law, Bobby and Cheryl Taylor of Burwell; eleven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Raymond and Libby Pribil; and sister, Debra Taylor.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 22, 2026, at the Baptist Church in Burwell, Nebraska. Pastors John Tiller and Ben Burris will officiate. The family will greet friends on Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Still Waters Funeral Parlor.
Memorials are suggested to 4 The Cure.
