Erin K. McGovern of rural Burwell, Nebraska passed away on Monday, September 15, 2025, at the age of 66.

Erin Kathleen was born to Edward P and Patricia C. (Newman) McGovern on May 24, 1959, at Lincoln, Nebraska. She was raised in Lincoln where she received her early education at St. Teresa Catholic School and graduated from Lincoln Pius X High School.

After graduating from high school, Erin began her career with Burlington Northern Railroad in both Lincoln, Nebraska, and Denver, Colorado. She later attended the University of Nebraska, where she earned her degree in architecture. Over the years, Erin also shared her talents working at The Framing Company in Lincoln and later with Building and Safety for the City of Lincoln.

Erin and Alice "Ally" Milligan were married on July 27, 2019, at Burwell, Nebraska. They enjoyed living on their rural property near the Calamus Reservoir.

Though accomplished in her work, Erin's true passions were music and home renovation, especially tiling, where she was known as a master of her craft. Her musical journey was long and rich: she performed with numerous groups, including The Hags with Mary Chapin Carpenter in Washington, D.C., and spent more than 20 years with The Toasted Ponies. She also played with Cold Springs Band and The McGovern String Band, alongside her brother Kelly. Erin recorded her own music with The Toasted Ponies, leaving behind a lasting legacy of song.

Erin loved animals deeply, caring for many throughout her life and cherishing each one.

To all who knew her, Erin's heart, spirit, and voice were like that of an angel. Her presence touched countless lives, and she will be missed beyond words.

Survivors include her siblings and their spouses, Mike and Wendy, Dan and Laurie, Shannon, Kelly and Chris and Dennis and Jo, and many loving family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and a nephew, Dylan McGovern.

A Celebration of Life Service for Erin and Ally Milligan will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at Kamp Kaleo, 46872 Willow Springs Road, Burwell, Nebraska.

A future gathering to honor Erin will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at The Barn at the Poolearosa, 2331 West Ash Road, Cortland, Nebraska.
