Ernest Eugene "Ernie" Schroder, of Burwell, Nebraska, passed away on Sunday, May 31, 2026, at CHI Good Samaritan Health System in Kearney, Nebraska, at the age of 74.

Born on November 17, 1951, in Ainsworth, Nebraska, Ernie was the son of Alfred E. and Laura F. (McCarthy) Schroder. He spent much of his youth in Loup County, where he received his education and graduated from Taylor High School in 1969.

In January 1971, Ernie answered the call to serve his country when he was drafted into the United States Army. His service took him to Germany, where he fulfilled his duties honorably. After completing his time in the military, Ernie returned to Nebraska and dedicated his working life to training horses and dogs. Known for his skill in carpentry, he was often recognized as a resourceful and trusted handyman within the local area.

Ernie was an avid outdoorsman; hunting and fishing whenever the opportunity arose.

He is survived by a daughter, Barbara Quinn of Chattanooga, Tennessee; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Kathy and Doug Pollard of Taylor, Alice and Kelly Stevens of Grand Island and Ruth and Steve Burke of Hadar; sister-in-law, Sandy Schroder of Taylor and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Johnny Schroder; and a sister and brother-in-law, Karolyn and Steve Graves.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Still Waters Funeral Parlor.

Military Honors will be presented by the Clifford Clark American Legion Post #298 at 6:30 p.m. outside of the Funeral Parlor.
