From the beginning, he embarked on a journey of dedication and service to Wheeler County.

In his early years, Robert worked in construction before serving his country in the United States Army beginning in the Fall of 1961 and was stationed in Alaska. After completing his military service in the Fall of 1963, he returned to Bartlett, Nebraska, where he began working with cattle.

Robert was united in marriage to Peggy Field, and together they welcomed two children, Kenneth and Lori.

His professional life was centered around the insurance industry, initially purchasing Nichols Insurance Agency in Bartlett. He later partnered with Ron Gillham, leading Nichols Gillham Insurance Agency and Sandhills Systems, which specialized in insurance, irrigation pivots, and grain bins. He played a key role in bringing Cornerstone Bank to Bartlett and continued his career there until his retirement.

During retirement, Robert had a vision and passion for the Herb Mignery Bronze Sculpture Garden in Bartlett. He spent countless hours fundraising, working on the design and placement of the sculptures and was always willing to give a guided tour of the garden. He was also an avid bowler and golfer.

A proud Army veteran, Robert was a member of the Bartlett American Legion Post #107 and the Great Bear Below Zero Club. His life was marked by dedication, service, and community involvement.

Survivors include his two children and their spouses, Kenneth and Julie Nichols of Bartlett and Lori and Travis Rodgers of North Platte; ten grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Leland and Pat Nichols and Dwight and Eudeen Nichols all of Bartlett; and a host of relatives and friends.
